In vegas , the Neighborhood 226 chapter of the Culinary Workers Union has reportedly reached a tentative agreement with casino operator, MGM Resorts International, just a day after coming into a similar agreement with rival company, Caesars Entertainment Corporation.
According to a report from local radio broadcaster, KDWN, the trade union had joined with the Neighborhood 165 branch of the Bartenders Union last month in threatening to predict Las Vegas’ initial citywide strike since 1984 after they were not able to reach new five-year employment contracts with a few of the city’s most notable casino operators including MGM Resorts International.
The broadcaster reported that the threatened strike by the local branch of the Culinary Workers Union might have seen nearly 25,000 of the employed in the Nevada city as housekeepers, bartenders, cooks, porters and bellhops hit the picket lines and may also have resulted in the temporary closure of MGM Resorts International’s Las Vegas properties, including the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, The Mirage and the MGM Grand Las Vegas.
But, the catastrophic weekend deals reportedly mean that the possibility of a citywide strike is now less likely, even though the trade union has yet to reach similar agreements with smaller Las Vegas gaming operators like Penn National Gambling Incorporated, Golden Entertainment and Boyd Gaming Corporation.
