For the very first time, Svenska Spel’s iGaming subsidiary, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, can provide its clients online casino matches, thanks to new laws ratified by the Swedish parliament, Riksdagen, on June 7, 2018, that introduced a recently regulated market into Scandinavia’s most populated nation on January 1, 2019.

The state-owned operator has been one of the first licensees for its newly-regulated market and on November 30, 2018, was granted licenses by regulator, Lotteriinspektionen, to provide both sports betting and online gaming by the 1st of the new year.
Svenska Spel has for more than two decades held a betting monopoly in Sweden, but the terms of its permit made it unable to compete with unlicensed rivals offering goods such as online casino and poker.
