Hard Rock AC installs giant guitars in preparation for Thurs opening

In Atlantic City, workers on Saturday spent several hours installing a 60-foot guitar at the entrance to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in preparation for its opening on June 28.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the iconic guitar, which was modeled in the likeness of a Gibson Les Paul guitar, was transported to the site at the end of South Virginia Avenue as two pieces. According to the news agency, working lights serves as the guitar strings and the hotel and casino’s logo are featured on both sides of the guitar’s body along with the name of the resort in white letters.

It was the second sign modeled after the solid body electric guitar that was first sold by the Gibson Guitar Corporation in 1952 to be installed, as a 30-foot tall sign was put in by workers on Thursday. The process at Route 30 and Virginia Ave didn’t quite go as expected, as the sign was erected without officials noticing that “rhythm” was spelled incorrectly on the rhythm and treble switch.

According to a Thursday report from the Associated Press news service published by ABC News, officials at the soon to be opened hotel and casino said that the typo, which included the letter “E” [rhythem], was corrected the same day when the extra vinyl letter was removed.

On April 18, Hard Rock International Chairman & CEO, Jim Allen, announced the opening date of the former Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, which underwent a $500 million renovation and received approval by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission last month.

It will open on June 28, just one hour before the scheduled 1pm opening of Ocean Resort Casino, which after an emotional two-day hearing and 26 conditions addressing the Atlantic City resort casino’s financial resources along with its relationship with lender, JPMorgan Chase, was granted a license on June 21.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City will reportedly feature an 119,657 square-foot casino with 120 gaming tables, 2,100 slots and 8 restaurants. Among them includes the 22,360-square-foot, state-of-the-art Hard Rock Café with seating for 416 guests with two dining rooms, two stages and a seasonal patio, multiple bars, a nightclub and  more than 150,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Helping to christen the new venue, Carrie Underwood and Pitbull are scheduled to perform on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
