In what’s a substantial initial step in its planned expansion in Asia, on Thursday, Resorts World Genting launched a digital reality “expertise center” in partnership with Utah established builder and operator of digital entertainment centers, The Void LLC.
Genting Malaysia Bhd, operator of the only legal casino hotel in Malaysia [Resorts World Genting], said in the official media release that the “hyper-reality experience which features cutting-edge technology and world-class content” compared with traditional location-based digital reality “attracts a totally fresh immersive experience.
This new world, according to the release, allows gamers to interact with places and characters while having the ability to view, hear, touch and even smell what’s around them by cutting-edge virtual reality technology, multi-sensory results and physiological stages.
Dubbed The Void, the experience centre, which is within the hotel ’s indoor entertainment park Skytropolis Funland, crosses nearly 650 sq meters (7,000 square feet) and is “the very earliest and biggest [virtual entertainment center] in Asia.
The virtual reality centre in Resorts World Genting includes the award-winning “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire” productions by ILMxLAB (Lucasfilm’s Immersive Entertainment branch ) and the new “Ralph Breaks VR. ” The latter was created in collaborations with Walt Disney Animation and inspired by the animated movie “Ralph Break the Internet,” according to the press release.

Lawsuit & squashed Fox theme park plans:
In related news, Genting Malaysia Berhad allegedly filed a lawsuit at California against the Walt Disney Co. and Fox Entertainment Group looking at at least $1 billion in damages for an alleged breach of contract. The lawsuit filed on November 26, 2018, in the Central California District Court cites damages from the withdrawal by Fox by a 2013 agreement to license its intellectual property to what would have been Fox’s first theme park.
Genting reportedly invested nearly $180 million in The Fox World theme park, which was located in Resorts World Genting, with an expected opening date planned for the first half of 2019.
