In New Hampshire, Seabrook Greyhound Park has allegedly been sold to the employee-owned company behind Nevada’s Eureka Casino Resort in hopes it can now be transformed into a leading place amusement and gaming destination.
Legislative hangover:
Based on a Thursday report from The Portsmouth Herald newspaper citing an official press release in the new proprietor, the 75-acre facility located some 48 miles north of Boston opened 45 years ago but saw its business take a dramatic nosedive in the wake of the eastern state’s 2008 decision to ditch puppy racing.
Although the specific price of this transaction was not disclosed, the newspaper declared that Seabrook Greyhound Park was recently assessed for a little more than $5.7 million and was almost forced to close four decades ago as part of a deal that would have seen its own website transformed into an industrial park.
Transformation goal:
The Portsmouth Herald farther noted that new owner detailed it does not mean to lobby legislators in ‘The Granite State’ for permission to enlarge gaming operations within the 90,000 sq ft Rockingham County venture but does want to update its own casino, off-track gaming places and poker room. The Nevada firm announced that it expects completing the first phase of this venue-wide plan by August so as to create Seabrook Greyhound Park ‘the region’s premier gaming, entertainment and food and drink destination. ’
Native knowledge:
Greg Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Eureka Casino Resort, told the newspaper He has ‘deep ties to New Hampshire’ thanks to graduating from St Paul’s School in the state capital of Concord. He also explained that the Mesquite-headquartered casino operator’s Chief Operating Officer, Andre Carrier, has family in the north of this country and that both men are now excited about introducing the region to ‘our corporate society and our desire to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests as well as the communities we all serve. ’
