Gaming earnings at Maryland’s half-dozen independently owned casinos increased 14.7% in May this year compared to the same time last year at $136,464,277, setting a fresh single-month record high of $156,555,593, according to a Tuesday report by Maryland Lottery and Gaming.
Prior to a month’s record, in March 2018 the state’s six individually owned casinos created a total of $150,073,958 in gaming revenue, setting a record. MGM National Harbor having opened on December 8, 2016, last month was the fifth complete month when it was possible to get a direct year-over-year comparison to be made which included all six of Maryland’s casinos.
Gordon Medenica, manager for the regulatory body, congratulated the casinos on “an excellent month” and stated, “As our casino spouses continue to innovate and add new amenities, it’s exciting that six possessions saw year-over-year gains in May.
For the 2nd consecutive month, MGM National Harbor was the top earner totaling $62,300,446 out of its 178 table games and 2,701 slot machines in May, an increase of 23.3 percent or $11,748,361, in precisely the same time last year.
Mirroring last month’s effort, Live! Casino & Hotel has been the state’s next top earner having totaled $52,021,319 in May out of its 4,404 slot machines and 198 dining table games. May 2018 earnings at the Anne Arundel County casino increased by 13.4 percent, or $6,130,908, in precisely the same time the calendar year prior.
Retaining the number three spot in last month, the Caesars Entertainment Corporation-owned Horseshoe Casino Baltimore saw a total of $24,077,214 from its 168 table games and 2,200 slot machines in May, an increase of 2.0 percent, or $482,264, from May 2017.
May 2018 earnings from Hollywood Casino Perryville’s 822 slot machines and 22 table games totaled $6,786,329, an increase of 6.7 percent, or $428,276 in precisely the same time last year. Revenue in the casino owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties fell slightly from last month’s 7.3 percent increase in the year prior.
Rounding out the list was Rocky Gap Casino Resort, which created $4,937,695 from it 665 slot machines and 17 table games in May.
