The state of Delaware may be among the leading runners in offering sports betting after the US Supreme Court decision earlier this week overturning the 1996 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.
Delaware was among 3 nations granted limited exemption from the national law, but its passing now makes it possible for the state to widen its offering to include single game betting.
Delaware Online reported this week that the nation is poised to be among the first to take advantage of this newly liberalised sports betting vertical, quoting officials in the governor’s office and the state Attorney General’s department who stated there are no impediments preventing Delaware from providing single game betting, and setting the scene for a roll-out at the 3 land casinos in the country within weeks.
“We are beginning training next week,” state Finance Secretary Rick Geisenberger told Delaware Online. “Our expectation is to get that complete following week and it’s a question of testing computer software. But this is going to be a conversation using all the casinos and we’ll begin when we’re ready and they are prepared. ”
“Now, there are a few substantial reasons to start this at the casinos,” Geisenberger stated, adding that the limited roll-out will provide the state an opportunity to analyze how the bets operate and reduce money laundering concerns in a more controlled setting.
Exactly what sorts of betting will be offered from the first weeks are still be worked out, he said.
“Generally, it is going to be with the spread,” he said. “But finally we’re going to examine the mix of products that is logical. ”
