Lower tax rates and strong growth offer fresh opportunities
To an industry sector that frequently appears to be under regulatory siege, the Spanish authorities ’s recent decision to lower the most popular remote gambling tax rate from 25% to 20 percent of GGR (10% of GGR for companies based in the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla) came as a welcome surprise.
Spain’s authorities made its choice with the explicit intention to convince now unlicensed operators to perform their activities in the legal market, thus extending a much-needed welcoming hand into new market entrants.
“The Spanish government has given its remote gambling sector a clear short-term positive; it is up to the sector to learn lessons from elsewhere and turn it to some long-term victory story,” the most renowned, London-based strategic consultancy company Regulus Partners observed.
Owen Tustin, VP Gaming Relationship Management at emerchantpay, said:
The 2018 Gambling in Spain Conference offers a unique, in-depth chance to consider the allure of a revitalized Spanish market, prior to the current DGOJ licensing window closes in December 2018.
