This success would not have been possible without the commitment and direction of members just like you. I feel it also proves what can be achieved when we unite and work together to help grow gambling, focusing on exactly what’s best for the entire industry.
With your support, AGA led a last-minute campaign to strike down PASPA, touting the benefits of a legalized, regulated sports gambling marketplace. Our approach relied on four Important elements:
Strong Industry Alignment: Through the Sports Betting Task Force, we headed a clear process to establish our sector’s position and drive penis value;
Two-Track Strategy throughout the Courts and Congress : We developed congressional champions to encourage our position, filed an amicus brief that was mentioned by the Supreme Court in its ruling and helped to organize 20 other states that registered a separate amicus brief in support of New Jersey;
Original Research, Aggressive Communications: Our research garnered national press attention and our strategic communications shaped public perception to encourage legalizing and regulating sports gambling; and
Broad Stakeholder Service: Through our American Sports Betting Coalition, law enforcement officials, states rights’ advocates, policymakers and industry leaders touted our position.
We aren’t letting up. Below are three crucial areas where we can Offer the greatest value to the industry in this next phase:
1) Assist the Development of Sound State Public Policy : We stand ready to work together with you, serving as an expert resource in nations considering legalization.
2) Lead Industry Efforts to Identify Common Cause with Leagues: Dealing with leagues may increase speed to market, produce consistency across states and eliminate the illegal industry. But any arrangement has to work for gambling and, wherever possible, be based in contract instead of statute.
3) Avoid Harmful Federal Policy: States are effective gaming regulators. There’s no need for federal intervention, especially in forming a company relationship between athletic bodies and gambling companies.
