Corona Resort and Casino opens Doorways in Phu Quoc to become Vietnam’s casino to allow locals to gamble
Vietnam’s casino to permit locals to gamble opened doors this weekend at Phu Quoc, regarded as the country’s biggest island. Corona Resort and Casino is a part of a larger ecotourism and entertainment complex.
The programmer spent more than $2.1 billion to the luxury hotel and casino resort.
Apart from foreigners, Corona Resorts and Casino may even admit sailors to its gambling floor. While casino gambling is legal in Vietnam, citizens of the country have been banned from gambling at its existing facilities for several years.
Under a new, government-endorsed application, the Phu Quoc-based casino will allow locals to enter its premises and gamble during a three-year trial period. The three-year program aims to help Vietnamese lawmakers determine whether taxpayers should be allowed to gamble at neighborhood casinos permanently.
Corona Resorts and Casino allows just people aged 21 or more to gamble at its gambling floor. There’s also an entrance fee for taxpayers of the country. A 24-hour pass costs VND1 million (approx. $43), while a monthly pass is worth VND25 million (approx. Locals are not allowed to gamble more than 720 hours a month.
The property features a 30,000-square-meter casino flooring with more than 200 gaming tables also over 2,000 slot machines.
The casino will be available 24/7 throughout the three-year trial period. Vietnamese passport holders will be allowed to gamble if their minimum monthly income is VND10 million (approx. $430) and have no history of criminal offenses.
News emerged late last year which Vietnam’s coastal province of Quang Ninh is seeking permission to construct a $2-billion hotel with a casino which will enable locals to gamble. The land is going to be constructed in the Van Don district, which has been trying to attract investment and eventually become a major tourism and industrial boon.
According to original plans, the Van Don casino resort will spread over 2,500 hectares of land and will be built and launched in many phases, with phase one expected to become usable in the first quarter of the year. The major complex is projected to be completed and fully operational by 2022.
Developers aim to procure a 50-year gaming permit for their own property. As stated earlier, the land, if accepted, will too be a part of the government’s three-year trial application and also will admit Vietnamese passport holders to its gambling floor.
According to ancient projections, once fully operational, the resort will inject VND250 billion (roughly $11 million) to the nation’s market every year.
