Kicking off on July 30th, the Unibet Open returned to Bucharest and provided players a few days of quality poker gaming. On the program was a €2,200 High heeled event, which saw 63 total players registering to compete. In the long run, it was Alexandru Gavrilut who earned the first-place complete, outlasting several top players throughout the competition.
Closing Table Eliminations:
Amazingly, after final table play began and the 6th player has been removed, Gavrilut would eliminate the last four players by himself. Fifth place would go to Amir Shomron when he put his A-K up against Gavrilut’s pocket jacks.
The following to go would be Petre Laurentiu Chiriac. As the short pile, Chiriac’s tournament life has been finished after he place his deuce-three up from Gavrilut’s ace-four. With this elimination, heads-up play could start.
Heads-up Battle:
Gavrilut would need to confront against Simeon Spasov at the last round, a player who had kept the chip lead during the final table. Going in to heads-up play, Spasov had a 2 to 1 chip lead. The chip lead would go back and forth until Gavrilut would eventually gain a good 7 to 1 edge.
Spasov wasn’t prepared to give up and could cut down the lead to 3 to 1 before the last hand would go down. Both players used their approach and training to attempt to make the win, but there may only be one winner.
Spasov would go in on the last hand with Jack-nine after holding top pair on the turn. Gavrilut would phone with a Queen-eight lower pair. An eight on the lake gave Gavrilut excursions and the triumph, securing him that the 2018 Unibet High Roller title.
