Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited (NASDAQ: MLCO) has announced that its latest hotel growth will be launching soon. The $1.1 billion Morpheus resort tower will be ready for guests by June 15, based on information given by CEO and chairman of Melco, Lawrence Ho.
According to Asia Gaming Brief, a media briefing was held in Macau at the Grand Hyatt this week, with Melco offering a sneak peek of this new tower. Morpheus is a visually distinctive resort as a result of its unusual exoskeleton exterior, an architectural component that has never been seen previously.
Throughout the briefing, Ho allegedly said that with Morpheus, Melco desired to be different ‘by the get-go’. When talking of this gaming and non-gaming facets of the property, Ho pointed out that he wished to create an integrated hotel that is ‘past gambling’.
According to the CEO, with most of Melco’therefore hotels, less than five percent of GFA contains gambling. Morpheus and City of Dreams were designed to target the premium mass section. Ho said: “Together with COD, it was always supposed to be a next-gen IR. That was always the goal of Morpheus too, which completes our COD rebrand. ”
The good thing of the opening date comes just a few days after it had been announced that Morpheus will not be using junkets to attract high rollers. Lawrence Ho revealed that this news also, saying that instead of using junkets, the new property will use their own database to diversify their client base instead of relying on premium players. Ho said that finally, it is better to create your own database compared to rely on junkets.
Morpheus will feature approximately 770 guestrooms, suites and villas and have a small casino on-site together with special event facilities, restaurants, swimming and swimming pools.
