The major casino Business has set its sights sunny Gold Coast as part of International expansion push
Reports concerning the casino operator’s interest in Queensland’s most popular tourism strip emerged that this summer.
The major Australian operator has only recently been given the green light from the Queensland Government to enlarge its property. The projected expansion included the addition of four plots in the present hotel as well as multiple dining and entertainment choices. The Star has said it would invest approximately A$2 billion into enlarging its Gold Coast operation.
While the Australian operator was given the nod to go with the growth of its property, the Queensland Government is yet to approve the broadly debated structure of a second integrated hotel in the Gold Coast region.
But, it became understood that Hard Rock is pushing to be chosen as the preferred developer of the second complex. The company operates casinos around its native US marketplace, but is looking to expand internationally. It was chosen earlier this year as the preferred bidder to the evolution of a major integrated hotel scheme in the Spanish city of Tarragona and is lobbying actively to enlarge from the newly legalized Japanese gambling marketplace.
As a part of its strategy to expand Queensland’s tourism industry, the state’s authorities has introduced not long ago the International Tourism Hub concept, which includes the building of integrated resorts throughout the state. The plan aims to attract both domestic and international investors and also to boost Queensland’s A$25-billion tourism sector , which can be estimated to be encouraging more than 200,000 jobs.
In a letter to the authorities from earlier this year, Hard Rock has stated that it was especially intrigued by the “holistic version ” introduced by lawmakers and that it was thinking about developing a “entertainment-centric” property, the Gold Coast being its favored location.
Community Reaction into Hard Rock’s Expansion Effort
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Friday during a Gold Coast visit that a second casino in the region is a thing yet to be discussed. However, reports emerged on the weekend that Hard Rock has approached the government and has introduced it with a deadline for a A$2-billion integrated hotel project.
The accounts of Hard Rock’s curiosity at a Gold Coast development have been met with overwhelmingly negative reaction by neighborhood club companies and many members of Gold Coast communities. Doug Flockhart, CEO of Queensland Clubs, advised the Gold Coast Bulletin that a recent research has proven that a second casino on the Coast would have an immediate effect on at least 30 local clubs and may even ruin them, along with indirect effect on countless clubs around the country.
The country ’s neighborhood club industry annually contributes A$850 million back to communities and also a second casino would affect adversely those contributions, Mr. Flockhart added.
