Ho-Chunk Nation casino proposal sees Resistance from Beloit group as it awaits federal and state approval
A group of community members has mounted opposition to the proposed construction of a casino in town of Beloit, Wisconsin. Concerned citizens held a meeting on Tuesday to go over the project’s deadline and other issues, and indicated that community members have been permitted to voice their opinion on the casino program at a local referendum.
The 11th Hour Beloit Casino Group hosted the assembly as the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin is awaiting federal approval to construct a $400-million hotel and casino hotel along Interstate 90/39. The property would feature a gambling facility with 2,200 slot machines and 50 table games, a 300-room hotel, a water park, a convention center, food and drink facilities, and a number of other amenities.
The Ho-Chunk Nation has stated previously that it hopes it would be able to break ground on the resort late this year or in early 2020 and also to launch the land in 2021.
As stated previously, the 11th Hour Beloit Casino Group has voiced opposition to the plan, and it has implied that Beloit citizens be given the chance to voice their opinion on whether they need a casino at a referendum.
She told local media later that there was a public procedure on the casino matter past February and that an open meeting was held at which no competitions came forward.
Ms. Curtis Luther went on to state that at the current phase of the game talks of “an advisory referendum are not necessarily appropriate. ”
The Beloit casino program needs federal and state approval for the Ho-Chunk Nation to have the ability to proceed with construction. The job was in the building for at least a decade now, but it was only last August that it made first significant step toward its own eventual materialization.
The US Bureau of Indian Affairs announced last summer that it would review the casino resort proposal and its environmental and financial impact. In November, the agency published a draft of their findings from its review, but it is still to announce its final conclusion.
Even if the Bureau provides the green light to the job, it will also need acceptance from Governor Tony Evers. Wisconsin’s top official has spoken in favor of this proposed casino resort.
According to ancient projections, the Ho-Chunk-operated hotel and casino complex will create 1,500 new jobs and will create labor income of almost $84 million. It is also expected to bring economic effect of more than $225 million into Rock County. The host city of Beloit will annually receive $3 million from the Ho-Chunk Nation for being permitted to provide its solutions in the region.
