The British Bases from the Republic of Cyprus have denied reports that they have raised objections to the €550-million Limassol casino plan over environmental or any other worries, local information outlet Cyprus Mail reports.
The Bases stated in a recent announcement that they “have no jurisdiction in regions ” throughout the Mediterranean island country, which meant they could have no direct influence on the job ’s future.
Back in the fall of 2016, Hong Kong-based hospitality and gaming company Melco Resorts & Entertainment was chosen by the Cypriot authorities as the winning bidder to the nation’s first casino hotel. Melco, which now operates properties in Macau and the Philippines, is intending to build a €550-million hotel in the Zakaki region in Limassol. The property will include a full-fledged casino with slot machines and gambling tables, as well as a resort, food and drink facilities, retail area, a lot of attractions, and a meeting and events centre, amongst others.
